Biography
Elizabeth Hedberg-Dirk, Ph.D. received her BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1996. In 2004 she received her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Rice University under the direction of Dr. Antonios Mikos. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering with and additional appointment in the School Of Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences. She is an active member of the Center for Biomedical Engineering and assisted in the setup and management of the tissue culture user facility. Dr. Hedberg-Dirk's research focuses on the development of new polymeric materials along with novel processing techniques for the fabrication of materials with tunable spatial and temporal characteristics for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications. Her work involves collaborations with scientist, engineers, medical doctors, and dentists on UNM Main Campus and North Campus, as well as Duke University, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center, and Sandia National Laboratories. She has had 1 patent issued and 6 additional applications filed since joining the faculty, leading to the formation of 2 start-up companies.Research Interests
